School
The age of the student provides a general guide for initial
placement. A Toledo Ballet instructor will evaluate a child during
his/her first class and place them accordingly. Students are expected to
spend at least one year in a level before moving to the next
level. Please note, students may stay in one level for many years from
the advanced beginning student up to the advanced level. Students may
begin ballet at any age. It is not necessary to begin in the pre-ballet
program to take regular levels of ballet classes. Evaluatin by an
instructor will be necessary for any students who begin at 10 years of
age or older or if a child is transferring from another school.
Students will be considered to begin pointe after having four
consecutive years of ballet training. Teachers will evaluate students to
make sure they have the proper strength and technique before allowing
them to start on pointe.
Parents of children ages 3 and 4 are recommended to try a trial class if
this is your child's first experience in a ballet or dance class. This
allows the child to see if he/she has an interest before committing them
to a semester registration. During the trial class your child may either
watch or participate so that you and the instructor can determine their
readiness for class. The cost of the trial classes is not refundable but
may be applied toward tuition. We highly recommend parents not watch
class as this is very distracting to the child. |

Ballet Program
Ballet is the foundation for all other dance forms. It is an art
form that can be studied at any age by both females and males. It is the
most physically demanding of all dance but also the most rewarding.
Dancers with excellent ballet training can transfer these skills to
jazz, modern dance, and even hip hop. A solid ballet technique
foundation is critical to becoming an outstanding performer in any dance
form.

| The ballet technique taught at Toledo Ballet is based on the
outstanding elements of the Russian, Italian, and French schools. The
study of ballet has additional benefits such as it lengthens the muscles
and contributes to the overall strength and well-being of the dancer's
body. It teaches discipline, perseverance, and teamwork skills that each
student will use throughout life. |
